Taylor Nelson Buys French Rival

Information company Taylor Nelson AGB has just announced that it is to buy French rival Sofres for £119 million. The deal, which is expected to be completed in the next three weeks, will create the fourth largest marketing information company in the world.

TNAGB said that the reasons for the alliance with Sofres were its common strengths in databases and branded research vehicles as well as the need to tap into emerging markets and increase investment in product research and development.

The combined 1996 research revenue for the two was $440 million, compared to AC Nielson which was top with $1.360 billion.
