Telegraph appoints former Absolute chief Hewat

Nick Hewat Telegraph Media Group has appointed former Absolute Radio commercial director Nick Hewat as its new sales director.

Hewat joins TMG after 17 years in radio, which saw him head up agency sales at GCap Media and most recently work at Virgin Radio, which relaunched as Absolute radio after its takeover by Times of India Group.

Hewat will report directly to TMG’s executive director Dave King, who has moved the group’s current sales director Matthew Watkins to the newly created role of director of advertising strategy, when he joins within the next two months.

He will be responsible for the sales teams for TMG’s newspapers and magazines, as well as its international and Manchester sales operations.

Meanwhile, Watkins has been moved to oversee analysis at TMG and will be looking at trends across the press ad market as well as making sure the group keeps up with its key performance indicators.

Hewat’s appointment and Watkins’ change of role comes alongside TMG’s recent decision to bring in Ross Belcher, ex-director of investment at Viacom Brand Solutions, to fill the newly-created client strategy director position.
