Telegraph Bags Sponsors For Travel Supplements
![]()
The Telegraph Group has secured £500,000 worth of deals with a range of foreign tourist commissions and travel companies to sponsor their own special supplement in the Daily and Sunday Telegraph.
The deals will see the publication of tabloid supplements promoting Australia, Hong Kong, Portugal and South Africa as holiday destinations. There will also be an insert promoting Cathay Pacific and a series of advertorials from the cruise company Swan Hellenic.
The sponsorships represent the first time the Telegraph Group has integrated itself so fully in the tourism industry. The deals were secured by Kimberly Butler, strategic planner for the Telegraph’s commercial development department.
The Daily Telegraph is sponsoring the Destinations 2004 travel show at London’s Earls Court between 6 and 8 February and in Birmingham later that month. Copies of the Hong Kong, Australian, French, Swan Hellenic and Cathay Pacific supplements will distributed at the London event and all travel supplements are reproduced online at www.travel.telegraph.co.uk from the date of publication, supported by banners and buttons and then archived.
Earlier this month the Telegraph Group attempted to improve its advertising sales operation with a restructure that will see a team of strategy executives work within the agency sales teams on a daily basis.
The initiative will see each of the four teams covering newspapers and magazines assigned a planner from the commercial development department, who work alongside the sales executives with a specific focus on media planners at agencies (see Telegraph Group Restructures Advertising Sales Division).
