The Daily Telegraph has announced the launch of a spate of specialist golf supplements designed to commemorate the US Masters, Ryder Cup and The Open golf tournaments sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland.
The sponsorship will see RBS branding appear on five separate supplements to be published throughout the golf season including a 32-page colour magazine included in the Sunday Telegraph covering the The Open and Ryder Cup events.
Content for the supplements will also include a special column by two-time ‘Golfer of the Century’ Jack Nicklaus and a dedicated Shot of the Day feature highlighting the best moments of each tournament.
Commenting on the coverage James Mann, head of sport sponsorship at The Daily Telegraph, said: “The start of the golf season is an important date in the sporting calendar and our coverage is always welcomed by readers. RBS have supported our coverage of other sporting events this year and we are now very pleased to have them as a major sponsor for the whole of the golf season.”
The newspaper, currently in the process of being sold by parent company Hollinger International, has recently embarked on a round of sponsorship deals, from advertorials for Cesar dog food to supplements on Americana sponsored by the New York Times (see Telegraph Deal Gives Readers Taste Of The Big Apple).
The paper has also been boosting its reputation in sporting circles, positioning itself as the official partner of the England and Wales Cricket Board and the England Cricket Team as well as becoming the £4.5 million sponsor of ITV’s Formula One coverage (see Formula One Red-Flagged By Audience Research).
The latest ABC results show a 4.5% decline in circulation for the newspaper in the six months to February, compared with the same period last year. The results will come as a disappointment for the paper amid a period of internal turmoil due to the continuing battle over its ownership (see Gannett Pulls Out Of Race For Telegraph Titles).
