Telegraph Group Appoints Dunk As Classified Sales Head

The Telegraph Group has promoted Stephen Dunk to the position of classified sales director as part of the ongoing shake-up of its advertising department.

The appointment is the first to be made by Chris White-Smith, who was promoted to group sales director as part of the changes. It also comes less than a week after Len Sanderson announced his intention to step down as managing director of sales (see Telegraph Parts Ways With Managing Director Of Sales).

Dunk, who has been with Telegraph Group for over 16 years, will assume many of the responsibilities previously held by Mark Payne, who last week was promoted from deputy advertising director and commercial director of Hollinger New Media to the new role of group commercial director (see Telegraph Group Names Drayton As New Managing Director).

Dunk will oversee the main supplements falling under the classified remit, which include Motoring, Property, Arts+Books, Travel and Business. He will also work to develop cross-selling opportunities across the Telegraph Group’s enterprises, commercial development, promotions and online divisions.

Commenting on the appointment, White-Smith said: “I am delighted to be appointing Stephen as director of classified. He’s perfect for our plans going forward and absolutely deserves the chance to shape and implement the future of the department and its integration with other Telegraph properties.”

Dunk added: “Telegraph Group has always been quick to adapt to changing environments and where appropriate we are keen to develop flexible access to all our media channels, with classified playing an integral part.”

Dunk joined the Telegraph Group as telesales executive back in the eighties and moved to the position of telephone sales manager. He was then promoted to travel group head and in 1997 he became classified sales manager.

The latest ABC figures for the six months to September 2003 show that the Daily Telegraph saw its circulation decline by 7.6% year on year to 926,050. The Sunday Telegraph also suffered with an 8.4% dip during the same period to 710,893 (see Times Parts Ways With Advertising Head After Shake-Up).
