Telegraph Parts Ways With Managing Director Of Sales

The Telegraph Group has announced that its managing director of sales, Len Sanderson, is to leave the company at the end of this month.

The move, which is part of a wider management restructuring at the paper, follows the decision of editor Charles Moore to relinquish his position in order to devote more time to his biography of Margaret Thatcher (see Moore To Step Down As Daily Telegraph Editor).

Commenting on his decision to step down, Sanderson said: “I have had 18 happy years with the Telegraph and am in the fortunate position of being able to decide what I would like to do in the future.”

He continued: “I believe I have been good for the company and the company in turn has certainly been wonderful to me, but it’s the right time for me to move on. I know I leave the Telegraph with a highly talented team of people to take it on to even greater success in the future.”

Dan Colson, deputy chairman and chief executive of the Telegraph Group, added: “Len Sanderson is one of the advertising sales industry’s great professionals. He and his team have done a magnificent job of expanding the Telegraph’s position as the undisputed newspaper advertising market leader and we wish him continued success”.

The latest ABC results for the six months to August 2003 show that the Daily Telegraph has seen its circulation decline by 7.9% year on year to 924,555, down from in 1,003,697 the same period the previous year.

The Telegraph Group recently secured HSBC Bank as the exclusive six-figure sponsor of its new business sections (see Telegraph Banks On HSBC To Sponsor Business Sections).
