Telegraph Secures Bank Of Scotland For Open Sponsorship

The Telegraph Group has secured the Royal Bank Of Scotland (RBS) as the six-figure sponsor of a special one-off supplement covering the Open Golf Tournament.

The eight-page broadsheet supplement will feature extensive RBS branding and will coincide with the start of the tournament on the 17 July.

The deal also includes a special Shot Of The Day feature in the Daily Telegraph and branding across the paper’s sport website, www.sport.telegraph.co.uk

Commenting on the sponsorship, James Mann, strategic planner in the Telegraph Group’s commercial development department, said: “The creative flexibility that we can offer will allow the package to run in the paper and online. The addition of exclusive editorial by Jack Nicklaus provides the perfect platform for RBS to exploit its sponsorship of the Open.”

The Telegraph Group recently signed a six-figure deal to promote MG Rover across the Daily and Sunday Telegraph (see Telegraph Revs Up With New Rover Promotion).

The latest ABC figures for the six months to June 2003 brought bad news to the Daily Telegraph, which saw its circulation fall by 7.7% year on year to 927,672, down from 1,004,574 in the same period the previous year.

The title has seen circulation remain below the key 1 million mark since it brought an end to the practice of bulk sampling and reduced the number of oversees sales last year (see Telegraph Group Puts An End To Bulk Sales).
