Telegraph Secures BMW Sponsorship

The Telegraph has secured BMW as the sponsor of its Ryder Cup golf supplement.

BMW will be the only advertiser in the supplement, which appeared in the newspaper today. The 8-page magazine, which is 70% editorial and 30% advertising, is being promoted with radio adverts on national talk-based radio station, TalkSPORT.

The deal was negotiated by Richard Selby, a strategic planner in the Telegraph group’s commercial development department, and BMW’s media agency, BBJ.

Earlier this month the Telegraph secured a deal with Inter-Continental Hotels to sponsor its Business Travel supplement (see Telegraph Ad Deal Spans Business Titles).

The Telegraph group has been in focus recently after raising the price of both its weekly and Saturday newspapers, which according to a spokesperson for the group, is partly a response to the ongoing advertising downturn. Independent News & Media recently increased the cost of the Independent, and the Times is also expected to raise its price.

The latest ABC Figures for the six months ending August 2002 reveal a 1.4% decline in the Daily Telegraph‘s circulation to 1,003,697, down from 1,017,514 in the same period last year.
