Telegraph Secures Mars Supplement Sponsorship
![]()
The Daily Telegraph has secured The Open University to sponsor a special one-off tabloid supplement marking the latest mission to Mars.
The Telegraph has been the leading paper in support of the Beagle 2 Mars mission and the 16-page supplement has been designed to reflect this. It will contain a range of editorial content about the mission, as well as exclusive interviews with those involved in the project.
The supplement appears on Saturday before the Mars landing on Boxing Day. It represents the largest single pre-landing coverage of the mission, which has been publicised by the decision to commission Damien Hirst to paint the Beagle 2 shuttle.
The sponsorship represents the first agreement between the Daily Telegraph and The Open University. The deal was negotiated by Matthew Margetts in The Telegraph Group’s commercial development and Zed Media.
The Telegraph recently secured Cunard to sponsor a specially commissioned a Christmas luxury goods supplement. The 48-page stand alone magazine was specially devised for cruise liner group and reflects the increasing popularity of sponsorship-led editorial (see Telegraph Launches Luxury Christmas Supplement).
The latest ABC results for the six months to January bring less than impressive news for The Daily Telegraph, which saw its circulation decline by 7% year on year to 922,112. The title saw sales dip below the million mark following its decision end to the practice of bulk sampling and reduce the number of overseas sales (see Telegraph Group Puts An End To Bulk Sales).
