Newspaper publishers, the Telegraph Group, have announced the appointment of Katie Vanneck as the company’s new marketing director, joining new executive directors Dave King and John Allwood.
Vanneck is the latest recruit to be brought to the company by chief executive Murdoch Maclennan, having resigned from her position of promotions director with News International titles the Times and Sunday Times where she oversaw the launch of the weekday paper’s compact edition.
Commenting on her new position Vanneck said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to join Britain’s market leading quality paper and is also a great opportunity.”
MacLennan added: “Katie has real creative energy and has a proven track record in newspaper marketing. We look forward to her coming on board.”
The move continues the management reshuffle at the Daily Telegraph which claimed the jobs of commercial director Mark Payne and group sales director Chris White-Smith last year (see Telegraph Execs Ousted As Reshuffle Continues).
Both of the Telegraph titles have seen their circulation decrease recently, a situation clearly at the head of MacLennan’s agenda, with the Daily Telegraph losing 1.6% year on year in the six months to November, while its Sunday sister title lost 2.0% in the same period. The Daily Telegraph now commands a circulation of just over 907,000 while the Sunday Telegraph‘s total is now almost 697,000.
