Telegraph Unveils Management Shake-Up

The Telegraph has unveiled a raft of management changes which will see Hugo Drayton, who is currently managing director of Hollinger Telegraph new media, take over as managing director of the Telegraph Group.

Drayton will replace Jeremy Deedes, who will stay on as a consultant to the group. Commenting on the shake-up, Dan Colson, deputy chairman and chief executive of Telegraph Group, said: “I am delighted to announce these senior appointments. The new executive team is very talented, experienced and ready to lead the Telegraph Group to further success.”

He continued: “Jeremy Deedes has done a tremendous job as Managing Director for the past seven years, and throughout a distinguished career with the Group, helping us build on our position as market leader in very tough trading conditions. I am delighted that Jeremy will be staying on as a consultant to the Group.”

The shake-up is the latest in a series of changes at the Telegraph Group following the decision of editor Charles Moore to relinquish his position at the helm of the paper in order to devote more time to his biography of Margaret Thatcher (see Moore To Step Down As Daily Telegraph Editor).

The restructuring will also see Kim Fletcher, who is currently consultant editor, move up to the post of editorial director, with responsibility for the editorial and production activities of both The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph. Fletcher was previously editor of The Independent on Sunday and deputy editor of The Sunday Telegraph.

The advertising department will also undergo a substantial shake-up and Mark Payne, who is currently deputy advertising director and commercial director of Hollinger Telegraph New Media, will take up the new role of group commercial director, with responsibility for all commercial activities.

Chris White-Smith, who is currently display advertisement director, will take up the new position of group sales director. The appointment follows the announcement that Len Sanderson, managing director of sales, is to leave the company at the end of this month (see Telegraph Parts Ways With Managing Director Of Sales).

In other moves, Tim Faircliff, currently operations director of telegraph.co.uk, will become General Manager of telegraph.co.uk. The new structure will take effect from October 13.
