Telethon To Be Scrapped

ITV’s charity raising ‘Telethon’ has been scrapped following a consistent fall in moneys raised over the past few years.

Amid speculation that the cut is due to a ‘tired format’, ITV told MediaTel this morning that the cut is the result of programme scheduling difficulties arising from ITV’s intended coverage of the World Cup – the next Telethon was due summer 1994. Several ITV companies will be relieved by the decision as the Telethon caused the loss of a day’s output. It seems likely however that shorter regional events will take place geared towards local needs.
