Television Viewing In Decline
According to the IPA’s Trends in Television Viewing Report up to the fourth quarter of 1993, television viewing for 1993 is down 4.3% for terrestrial viewing, and down 3.1% for consolidated viewing for all channels.
ITV’s share of viewing is down 0.8% points on 1992 to 40.0% for 1993, whilst BBC now has a share of 32%. The share taken by non-terrestrial channels shows some fluctuation, not appearing to have settled down after the re-organisation of the subscription system, say the IPA; share hovers around 6.5%.
In terms of audience size, ITV gained 14 of the top 20 programmes.
