BBC One was the only terrestrial channel to enjoy an increase in viewing share in November 2007, while multichannel options were also up for the month.
BBC One added 0.3 percentage points year on year to its total, while the largest drop was suffered by Channel 4, down 1.1 percentage points.
ITV1’s viewing share fell to 20.0% for November 2007, down from 21.0% in the same period the previous year, despite the best efforts of the I’m A Celebrity… gang (see I’m A Celebrity… Beats Controversial Queen Doco).
BBC Two remained static year on year, with a total viewing share of 8.7% for the month.
Channel 4 recorded the most significant drop in viewing share of the terrestrial channels, down 1.1 percentage points in November.
Its share now stands at 7.7%, compared to the 8.8% share it held in the same month in 2006.
BBC One was the only terrestrial channel to increase its share in November, with a 0.3 percentage point increase. It now has a vewiing share of 22.5%, up from 22.2% a year earlier.
One of BBC One’s biggest hits with viewers was also one of the saddest, as an average of more than 10.2 million adults watched the England football team get played off the park by Croatia in the European Championship qualifiers (see More Than 10.2 Million Share England’s Dismal Defeat).
Meanwhile, plucky upstart Five suffered a fall in its viewing share of 0.5 percentage points, taking it from 5.4% in November 2006, to 4.9% in November 2007.
Other channels, however, were once again on the up, with their share growing to 35.8%, equating to year on year growth of 1.9 percentage points.
November saw BBC One and BBC Two both increase their viewing share in digital homes, with BBC One holding on to the greatest share of the terrestrial channels in digital homes.
BBC One enjoyed an increase of 1.1 percentage points in November, while BBC Two was up by 0.6 percentage points to 7.6%.
ITV1, meanwhile, was down to almost 19.0% from 19.3% in November 2006, after a fall of almost 5 percentage.
Channel 4’s share of viewing fell to just over 6.5%, after a year on year decline of 0.5%.
Five’s share satyed relatively static year on year, meanwhile, at 4.4%.
BBC One was the most popular terrestrial channel in both Freeview and Sky homes in November, closely followed by ITV1.
BBC One’s share stands at around 18.0% and 23.8% in Sky and Freeview homes respectively, while ITV1’s rests at 17.3% and 20.3%.
Multichannel options continued to be popular in both Freeview and Sky homes. Viewing share of these digital channels is 49.7% in Sky homes and 32.7% in Freeview homes.
