Telewest And Carphone Warehouse Push Broadband

Telewest Broadband has formed a partnership with The Carphone Warehouse to promote broadband take-up across the UK.

The deal will see Telewest Broadband’s Blueyonder internet service become available in 137 Carphone Warehouse stores across the country from October 2002.

Charles Burdick, managing director of Telewest, commented: “This launch is a step towards Telewest’s goal to make broadband access as simple as possible. We are continuing with our aim to become the leading provider of broadband services in the UK.”

Charles Dunstone, chief executive of The Carphone Warehouse, added: “Broadband is a significant step forward for the internet and a category that we are keen to enter into and offer to our customers. By combining our skills and success with Telewest’s Blueyonder service, we believe this initiative will help boost the take-up of broadband in the UK.”

A number of high-profile partnerships deals have recently been announced in the increasingly competitive broadband market. Last week Lycos revealed plans to promote BT Broadband through a new channel specially created for broadband users (see Lycos Links With BT To Promote Broadband) and BT recently secured a joint-deal with BSkyB to offer discounted high-speed internet access to Sky customers (see BT Teams Up With Sky For Cut Price Broadband Promo).

Earlier this month, Freeserve filed a complaint with telecoms regulator, Oftel, claiming that BT’s dominant position in the telecoms market will stifle broadband innovation and development (see Freeserve Files Complaint Against BT Broadband).
