Telewest Announces Broadband Growth

Broadband Britain is becoming a reality, according to Telewest, which claims to have experienced 1,135% customer growth of its Blueyonder broadband internet service over the last year.

Managing director of Telewest Broadband’s consumer division, Philip Jansen, said: “This time last year we were selling 380 broadband connections a day on average, but today we are averaging 900.”

Last December the Government unveiled a series of initiatives designed to boost the uptake of broadband services in the UK (see Government Unveils Broadband Initiatives) and a recent survey by Jupiter MMXI forecast that the number of UK households with broadband access will treble during 2002 (see Broadband And Digital TV Will Dominate In 2002).
