Telewest Announces Rebrand

Telewest and its regional subsidiaries are rebranding as Telewest Broadband in a move intended to strengthen the company’s position in the UK broadband market.

The rebranding includes Yorkshire Cable, Cable London and Cable Birmingham, which will be united under a new corporate logo designed to represent Telewest’s combined telephone, internet and broadband services.

Managing director of Telewest’s consumer division, Philip Jansen, said: “As we move into the new era of broadband and put the legacy of consolidation behind us, we decided to bring all our operations under one name. We hope to strengthen our broadband presence by positioning our brand values across the business.”

The rebranding coincides with the restructuring of the marketing department, which has traditionally been organised around product services. Commercial director of television, David Hobday, has been appointed sales and marketing director with responsibility for the Telewest Broadband brand and director of telephony and the internet, Gavin Patterso, takes over as commercial director in charge of business strategy.

The new brand will be promoted next year with an advertising campaign designed to raise consumer awareness of the broadband services available in the UK.

Telewest and NTL launched a nation-wide campaign in July (see NTL Teams With Telewest) to boost the uptake of broadband, which is currently available to around 9 million homes in the UK and is predicted to rise to 11.6 million by the end of next year.
