Telewest Cuts Entry Price For Broadband

Telewest Broadband is continuing its battle with BT for broadband dominance, by offering a three month broadband “tester” for less that the average cost per month of dial-up internet.
Launching tomorrow, the offer is aimed at homes with BT, AOL, Freeserve and other dial-up services, who pay an average of around £14 or £15 per month. The three month trial of Telewest’s blueyonder broadband internet service will cost £13.48 per month, after which they can claim back the installation fee of £50 (reduced to £25 if they take up all three Telewest Broadband services) if they decide they don’t want to continue with the service at the standard price of £29.99 per month, or £25 with digital TV or phone services.
Last week BT announced plans for a “No Frills” £27 per month broadband internet deal for its ADSL service (see BT’s ‘No Frills’ Service Ups Broadband Stakes). It is expecting the service to bring in another 500,000 customers when it launches in autumn this year.
David Hobday, sales and marketing director at Telewest Broadband, threw down the gauntlet, saying: “BT has made a big fuss over its belated wholesale ADSL price cuts recently, but we don’t think they would have the broadband-nerve to offer customers such good value with an optional installation refund.”
