Telewest Cuts Price Of Internet Service
The monthly cost of Blueyonder, Telewest’s high speed internet service, has been cut by a third, the company has announced. Launched in March this year, the high speed broadband internet service for home PCs originally cost £50 per month (see Telewest And Flextech Report Losses Ahead Of Merger). It will now cost £33 per month, making it the lowest cost service of its type in the UK. The price cut is to be promoted via a new marketing campaign.
The technology of the service eliminates the logging on process and gives users internet access up to 15 times faster than conventional services. It is currently available in the South East, North West and Edinburgh, with other UK Telewest regions due for roll-out in future.
Last week Telewest admitted that component shortages would prevent it reaching its year-end target for subscribers to its digital television service (see Set-Top Box Shortage Puts Telewest Three Months Behind). Since that time rumours have arisen again that a bid may be staged for the company, or a merger agreement reached with NTL (see Cable Industry Mulls Consolidation As Telewest Stock Tumbles).
