Telewest Launches New Software To Block Pop-Up Ads

Telewest Broadband is launching a pop-up ad blocker for users of its Blueyonder internet service in response to increasing consumer frustration with the advertising format.

The move, which follows the recent relaunch of blueyonder.co.uk, will see Telewest form a partnership with software provider Panicware to give its internet users free access to a pop-up stopper download.

The pop-up stopper is a browser toolbar for Internet Explorer that allows users it selectively control pop-up windows, or block them completely without being forced to sites they have no wish to visit.

Chad Raude, director of internet services at Telewest Broadband, said: “Panicware’s pop-up stopper combines as easy to use application with the option to hand pick pop-up windows you may want to access.”

He added: “We hope introducing this software will offer welcome relief from a top distraction for today’s web surfer.”

The launch of the initiative follows a recent poll by Jupiter Research, which found that 80% of the online adults users voted pop-ups the number one annoying form of online ad.

Earlier this year Telewest Broadband launched its fastest ever home internet service across the UK, following an extensive trial amongst 1,500 existing Blueyonder customers. The new two megabyte service is designed to provide home internet users with a new standard of web connection, enabling the quick download of large music, film and software files (see Telewest Launches UK’s Fastest Broadband Service).
