Telewest Launches ‘Off The Peg’ Broadband

Telewest has launched an “off the peg” version of its high-speed Blueyonder internet service in an attempt to increase uptake.

The new pocket-sized product is intended to offer broadband customers easy first-time access to Telewest’s high-speed internet services. It includes installation by a broadband technician, as well as a CD-ROM with tips and information about broadband content.

David Hobday, Telewest’s sales and marketing director, said: “Whether consumers choose to buy their broadband over the phone, online or on the high street, we want to make it as simple as buying a loaf of bread. Some ISP’s offer DIY retail kits that leave the consumer to do the wiring, but our ‘pocket broadband’ breaks more barriers to high-speed surfing.”

Competition in the broadband market is increasing, and last week rival cable operator NTL announced that it now has more than 300,000 broadband internet customers, taking its broadband penetration level to over 13% of homes where the service is available (see NTL Exceeds 300,000 Broadband Internet Customers).

The latest study from Continental Research also suggests that the popularity of broadband is growing, with around 700,000 homes predicted to upgrade to a high-speed internet connection within the next twelve months (see Research Reveals Growing Consumer Interest In Broadband).
