Telewest To Buy Birmingham And London Cable Franchises

The cable group Telewest Communications has decided to exercise its preemptive rights to buy two large cable franchises, one in London and one in Birmingham. Telewest already has a share in both the franchises which are co-owned by Comcast UK.

Following the buyout of Comcast by NTL recently (subscribers see NTL Buys Comcast UK For £363m), Telewest has the first right to buy the remaining stake in the franchises rather than let them effectively be sold to NTL. The company could not say when the transfer would be completed.
