Telewest To Resume Marketing After Set-Top Box Crisis

Telewest has announced that it will resume marketing of its digital cable TV service from October. Active marketing was suspended in July, less than a year after the service was launched (see Telewest Launches Digital Service), when a component shortage affected the supply of set-top boxes (see Telewest Puts Digital Strategy On Hold As Box Shortage Affects Cable Industry). Telewest’s suppliers, Pace Micro Technology, is thought to have increased production capacity to meet the demands of Telewest and its other clients, including BSkyB and NTL.

The company later admitted that the shortage had put them around three months behind in their target of reaching sales of 500,000 by the end of the year (see Set-Top Box Shortage Puts Telewest Three Months Behind). The problems have led to a flattening in the price of Telewest shares during the summer (see Sharewatch and below).
