Telewest To Sign Up Over 15,000 Customers To SurfUnlimited

Over 15,000 people have pre-registered for cable group Telewest’s unmetered internet access service. SurfUnlimited launches today and is the first in the UK.

The group announced plans for the service in December (see Telewest To Launch Britain’s First Unmetered Internet Service). It offers customers unlimited net access for £9.99 per month, provided they spend at least £10 more on other Telewest phone calls. BT announced plans for a similar service in the same month; its service however does not launch until spring.

Tony Illsley, Chief Executive of Telewest, said: “We are changing the internet model. The rate of growth of the internet is already explosive, but the potential growth is even more phenomenal. It is quite clear that one of the biggest inhibitors is cost. Until now, unlimited usage has meant unlimited bills. We want to end bill shock, so that everyone in a Telewest home can surf unlimited.

“SurfUnlimited is great news for consumers offering an outstanding value that is way ahead of the competition. At the same time this is a strong business move by Telewest, not only are we first to market, but we are confident this service will grow our market share and provide a very attractive economic model for us.”
