Telewest Trials UK’s Fastest Broadband Service

Telewest Broadband is launching trials of a new two megabyte version of its Blueyonder internet service, which it claims will be the UK’s fastest unlimited home internet product.
The pilot service offers a continuous cable connection to the internet, which Telewest claims is 40 times faster than traditional dial-up services and four times more powerful than BT Broadband.
The additional bandwidth is designed to give home internet users a “business-class” web connection, with faster download times for music films and software, along with the potential for near-TV quality video pictures.
Commenting on the trials, Gavin Patterson, managing director of Telewest Broadband: said: “We’ve already proven there’s a need for speed, with ten percent of our Blueyonder internet customers taking the one megabyte service. Now it’s time to shift up another gear, offering our customers the option of going even faster with the natural bandwidth benefits of a cable connection.”
Feedback from the 1,500 trialists will be used to improve the service prior to a full national launch later this year.
Consumer uptake of broadband internet services exploded during 2002, clearing the way for a four-fold increase in connections throughout Europe by 2006, according to new research from The Office Of National Statistics and Datamonitor (see Last Year’s Broadband Boom Kick-Starts Uptake).
