Telewest TV Subscribers Reach 400,000

TeleWest, the UK’s largest cable communications operator, has announced its fourth quarter operating statistics.

The figures show that: cable TV subscribers are up 12%, with subscribers now totalling 401,469; cable TV churn in the year was reduced by 8.1% from 52.6% in 1994 to 44.5% in 1995. 2 million homes have now been passed, representing over 53% of the 3.7 million homes in TeleWest’s owned and operated franchises. Penetration however, is down to 21.9%.

Commenting on the figures, Alan Michels, Chief Executive Officer of TeleWest plc, said, “The fourth quarter of 1995 was once again a quarter of growth… The first quarter of 1996 has also seen TeleWest undertake the largest ever marketing exercise by a UK cable operator. We are mailing 840,000 homes emphasising the tremendous benefits of switching to cable telephony.”
