Telewest Unveils New Blueyonder Internet Service

Telewest has today launched its new 1 mega-bite Blueyonder internet service for residential users.

The cable company claims that the new high-speed service, which has been on trial in Scotland, is 20 times faster than traditional dial-up internet access and can outperform other residential ADSL services provided through copper wires.

The 1Mb Blueyonder product, which is available to non-Telewest customers for £39.99 per month, will enable subscribers to quickly download music and software, share large files and access full-screen video pictures and audio streaming.

David Hobday, Telewest Broadband’s sales and marketing director, said: “1Mb is like viagra for your PC providing a mind-blowing internet experience that other service providers simply can’t keep up with.”

He added: “We have listened to the views of trialists and received some positive feedback in the process. There is a growing number of web sites providing top speed content, such as highly-encoded video and mega-sized files and we are as excited as our customers.”

Earlier in the month, Telewest launched a washroom-based advertising campaign to promote its existing Blueyonder broadband product (see Telewest Is Flush With New Blueyonder Campaign), which according to the cable company experienced 1,135% customer growth in 2001 (see Telewest Announces Broadband Growth).

Last week competition in the high-speed internet market increased with the launch of AOL’s new broadband service. At £34.99 per month the AOL Broadband product is more expensive than the current market rate of £30. However, the company is offering customers a broadband modem for £25 until 15 July, undercutting most of its competitors (see AOL Enters UK Broadband Market).
