The ITC has announced that it has awarded Telewest the cable delivery licence for the Taunton and Birdgewater areas. Telewest, one of the largest UK cable operators, was not the first choice for the licence however. It was originally awarded to Convergence, the highest bidder, who then withdrew their application.
Telewest’s commitment is to serve 52,854 homes by the end of the year 2002.
Convergence were unavailable for comment on their reasons for pulling out of the licence bid process.
