Tempus Reports 40% Increase In Profit

Media communications specialist, Tempus, has announced a 27% increase in turnover during 1998 to £1.23 million. Pre-tax profit increased by 40% over the year to £13.2 million, and basic earnings per share were up 15% to 10.8p.

Tempus rebranded last May from CIA Group to avoid confusion between it and its core operational brand CIA Medianetwork (see Newsline).

The group’s chairman, Chris Ingram, yesterday said that any hostile takeover bid from WPP, which owns 18% of Tempus, would ‘destroy the value of the company’. He commented: ” We are now reaping the benefits from our network, with strong revenue growths and increased margins being at the core of our improved performance. Overall, the group has significantly strengthened its market share in 1998. We are now positioned in the top six buying points in every major European market.”
