Tesco Banks On Online Shopping
Tesco has unveiled plans to install kiosks in banks which will allow users to check the stock of their local Tesco supermarket and order their shopping accordingly. The scheme is being pioneered by head of Tesco Direct, Gary Sargeat, and will be piloted in a branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland in Corstorphine, Edinburgh.
The kiosks, which give access to the supermarket’s Internet shopping service, will also be installed in 25 customer homes across London for a three-month trial from February.
Tesco Direct is used by 15,000 customers who use the telephone, fax or the Internet to place orders. The Internet “already accounts for 50% of home shopping orders,” says Sargeant.
