Text Messaging Slows In November
![]()
The text messaging boom slowed in November with the amount of text messages sent during the month remaining static at 1.2 billion, according to the latest figures from the Mobile Data Association (MDA).
November’s figure represents an increase of almost 50% on the same period last year, but is largely flat compared with October when over 38 million text messages were sent each day (see Text Messaging Booming, Says MDA).
November’s figures have been released early to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the first transatlantic wireless message sent from Europe to Canada by inventor Guglielmo Marconi. Chairman of the MDA, Mike Short, said: “Marconi’s success a hundred years ago market the turning point in world-wide wireless communication and text messaging spearheads the mobile data revolution this century.”
The total number of text messages sent so far this year is 10.9 billion and the MDA predict that this figure will increase significantly as advertisers realise the potential of SMS advertising.
