The final Dancing on Ice pulls in over 11.5 million viewers

Dancing On Ice Dancing on Ice – The Final pulled in more than 11.5 million peak viewers last night, securing ITV1 with the highest ratings all weekend.

Over 10.8 million average viewers tuned in to see the last three celebrities – Ray, Jessica and Donal – battle it out for this year’s trophy – securing ITV1 with an impressive 43.2% average audience share between 6.55pm and 9pm.

The extra-long grand finale show also pulled in the highest ratings of the series, which has averaged at 9.4 million viewers for the main Dancing on Ice programme and 7.9 million for the later Skate Off show.

Meanwhile, ITV1’s new Sunday evening line-up proved popular, attracting the peak audience from 6.30pm onwards – The Prince in the Rainforest, a new documentary following Prince Charles on his expedition to Brazil’s Amazon basin, started ITV1’s peak run.

The documentary programme, with Lawrence McGinty and the Prince of Wales, pulled in more than 5.1 million peak viewers and a 19.2% average audience share between 6.30pm and 6.55pm.

ITV1’s return of the crime drama Lewis, starring Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox, followed Dancing On Ice at 9pm – the first episode in the four part series attracted 8.2 million peak viewers and just under a 30% average audience share, which helped the commercial broadcaster hold onto the peak audience late into the evening.

However, BBC One managed to dominate the ratings on Saturday – banking the highest ratings all day and all evening, with just a short 30 minute break for the last part of ITV1’s Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

BBC One’s Six Nations Rugby coverage pulled in the peak viewers from 1pm onwards, starting with 1.9 million average viewers for Italy V France, 4 million for England V Scotland and 6 million for Wales V Ireland.

The last in the series of Richard Hammond’s Total Wipeout attracted 5.8 million average viewers between 7.30pm and 8pm, followed by 5.8 million for the long-running hospital drama Casualty.

Later on, more than 4.1 million viewers tuned in to see the first of six Live at the Apollo shows, hosted by Jack Dee – Match of Day followed with 4.3 million average viewers.

On Friday, the soaps dominated the early evening ratings but BBC One managed to hold the peak audience from 9pm with its classic line-up of QI, Not Going Out, BBC News at Ten and Friday Night with Jonathan Ross.
