The Guardian Appoints New Editor
Alan Rusbridger has been appointed new editor of the Guardian. The Scott Trust, owner of the Guardian and Observer announced his appointment last night.
Rusbridger, who is 41, has been deputy editor since 1993; he joined the paper in 1979. He was favourite for the job following Peter Preston’s promotion to editor-in-chief of both the Guardian and the Observer. This followed the resignation of Jonathan Fenby as editor of the Observer. The Scott Trust has yet to take a decision on the Observer’s editorship.
