The ITC Gets Into Dating
The ITC is consulting with interested parties on proposed revisions to Rule 39 of its Code of Advertising Standards and Practice, which relates to matrimonial and dating agency advertisements.
It is intended to amend the Code to expand its interpretation to cover a wider range of dating services. The ITC believes this will reflect the more widespread use of informal services, such as telephone dating lines.
Recognising, however, the personal security concerns involved in these services, the ITC is proposing to require licensees to gain assurances that the service provides adequate personal safety measures to service users.
The closing date for comments on the draft rule is 29 August 1997.
