The Street finale secured the highest ratings during the prime time slot last night with over 4.4 million peak viewers.
Jimmy McGovern’s drama series with Timothy Spall and Ruth Jones attracted more than 4.3 million average viewers and a 19.9% audience share for BBC One between 9pm and 10pm.
At the same time, the penultimate Monday Monday, ITV1’s comedy drama series starring Fay Ripley and Holly Aird, pulled in a high of 2.7 million viewers and a 11.3% average share.
Five’s The Hotel Inspector didn’t come far behind with over 2 million peak viewers and a 8.7% share, while BBC Two’s new Future of Food picked up a high of 1.8 million viewers and a 7.5% share.
The new three-part series follows journalist George Alagiah as he travels the world to investigate the growing global food crisis, which has recently involved riots on three continents.
Elsewhere, Channel 4’s On Tour with the Queen, which explored Queen Elizabeth’s presence in Australia and New Zealand as part of the Coronation Tour, attracted 1.3 million average viewers and a 5.9% share.
Earlier on in the evening, ITV1’s Coronation Street beat its BBC One rival to the top soap spot with a high of more than 8.3 million average viewers compared with Eastenders‘ 7.8 million.
