Overnights: The Street picks up a peak of 4.3m

BBC One’s hard-hitting drama series The Street triumphed in the 9pm slot last night, with a peak of 4.3 million viewers.

It was an emotional episode, with recovering alcoholic Shay examining his life after meeting his son for the first time. An average of 4.2 million viewers – a 19.3% viewing share – stayed with the show for its hour duration.

Monday Monday, ITV1’s 9pm comedy-drama starring Fay Ripley, could only manage a peak of three million viewers, however.

Over on Five, The Hotel Inspector had a peak audience of 2.2 million. The show follows hotelier Alex Polizzi as she jazzes up Britain’s underperforming hotels and bed-and-breakfasts.

Earlier in the evening at 8.30pm on BBC One, Panorama took a look at the dangers of cheap alcohol and visited Oldham, where local Police believe bargain basement booze has contributed to a massive increase in violent crime.

A peak of 3.4 million people watched the programme, while an average of 3.1 million stayed with it for its half-hour running time.
