Thirteen Stations To Compete For Yorkshire Radio Licence

The Radio Authority has announced that thirteen stations had submitted applications to run the Yorkshire regional radio licence by today’s closing date. As reported on Newsline (01/02/96) the licence is the second largest local radio licence outside London and will reach around 3 million adults.

The applicants are:

  • Arrow Broadcasting (Arrow FM, Nick Boakes, 0171 253 2252) classic adult music
  • Excel FM (Rachel Steel, 01226 791805) soul
  • Faze Two Ltd (Kiss FM, Guy Hornsby, 0161 228 0102) dance
  • Galaxy Radio Yorkshire (Galaxy 105, Richard Huntingford, 0171 221 2213) dance
  • Great Yorkshire Radio (John Myers, 0191 477 6666) pop
  • Hear Radio Ltd (Hear FM, Russell Stuart, 01603 630621) easy-listening
  • Saga Radio Ltd (Saga Radio, Tim Bull, 0103 711003) speech and music
  • The Voice of Yorkshire (Ian Blakey 01904 488888) easy-listening
  • White Rose Radio (Austin Mitchell MP, 0171 219 4559) adult contemporary
  • YFM (John Barnes, 01943 879531) indie, dance, chart
