Thomson Sale Imminent
An announcement regarding the sale of Thomson’s remaining Scottish titles is expected within the week according to press reports. The Barclay brothers are tipped as the purchaser of The Scotsman, the Edinburgh Evening News and Scotland on Sunday, whilst the Aberdeen Press and Journal is expected to be sold seperately – with DC Thomson coming out as front runner.
Three other contenders: Associated Newspapers’ Northcliffe group, a consortia led by Deutsche Morgan Grenfell and the Royal Bank of Scotland are also thought to have put in bids.
The deal is thought to be worth around £180m.
No comment was forthcoming from Thomson this morning with regard to the sale.
