Three New Radio Stations For Kent
The Radio Authority has awarded three new small-scale Independent Local Radio licences on the FM waveband for the East Kent area. The winning stations are:
CTFM (CTFM LTD, Richard Johnson, 01534 888 103): This station will be broadcasting news and community information and a blend of popular music for the district of Canterbury.
T.L.R. Thanet Local Radio (Kent Coast Radio LTD, Ken Wills, 01843 588 181): This will be a popular music-led station playing current and classic hits, combined with news and features, to serve the needs, tastes and interests of the people of Thanet.
The Sound (South East Radio LTD, John Grant, 01304 363 991): The Sound claims to be the sound of truly local radio, broadcasting news, views and information with a broad and appealing mix of music to cover the districts of Dover and Shepway.
This is the first time that the Authority has awarded a number of local licences simultaneously on an ‘alternative location basis’. This approach is designed to increase the opportunities for prospective operators of small-scale radio services to put forward proposals for consideration.
These licences will come into effect as soon as the successful applicants are ready to begin broadcasting.
…..The Authority has also made a provisional offer of the independent local radio licence for the Western Isles to Isles FM. This award is conditional on the station confirming it has secured the necessary funding.
