Times Launches Football Supplement
![]()
The Times is to launch a weekly sports supplement “The Game” before the start of the Premiership season.
Andrew Mullins, marketing director of The Times, said: “Over 18 million people follow football – every Monday they want to get post match reaction and analysis. The Game is designed to appeal to the urban football fan.”
The Game has been designed to capitalise on the ever-growing football market, which largely consists of young men. The team behind The Game will doubtless be hoping to capture the enthusiasm which saw record traffic at sports web-sites during the World Cup (see World Cup Wins On The Web).
The supplement will cover the Premiership and Nationwide leagues across all the major European footballing countries.
According to the monthly ABC results for June, The Times has seen circulation decline by 0.4% year on year to 703,834, down from 706,402 in June 2000.
The Game will be launched with a £1 million multimedia campaign.
