The Times is extending its portfolio of supplements with the launch of a new weekly guide to life in London, called The Knowledge.
The new supplement, which launches at the beginning of July, will come in a handy A5 format and will contain 64 pages dedicated to life in the UK’s capital city. The title will include entertainment listings, restaurant reviews, shopping tips and a guide to family events in the city.
The Times also claims the supplement, which will be edited by former Time Out editor, Dominic Wells, will reveal some of London’s best kept secrets, as well as providing special offers and discounts for readers.
Commenting on the launch, Robert Thompson, editor of The Times, said: “London is one of the greatest cities and at times you are in need of guidance to get the most out of it. To be honest, until you have read The Knowledge you wont really appreciate the range of experiences the city has to offer.”
The Independent On Sunday recently launched its own city supplement, Talk Of The Town, which offers a cultural guide to the London area. The Guardian also publishes its Guide every Saturday, with regional listings for cinema, theatres and gigs.
Earlier this year The Times launched a new weekly public sector supplement, called Public Agenda, with the support of a major advertising campaign (see The Times To Promote New Public Sector Supplement). A new electronic version of the daily paper was also recently unveiled to online subscribers for around £50 a year (see Times Launches Daily E-Paper For Online Subscribers).
According to the latest ABC results for the six months ending April 2003, The Times has seen its circulation decline by 6.2% year on year to 667,658, down from 711,628 in the same period in 2002.
