Times Launches Third Daily Section

The Times is to launch Times 3, a new daily supplement which brings together features, arts, media, books, fashion, style and health. The 12 page section, which fits inside the Times 2 supplement, launches next Tuesday 20 July.

The idea behind Times 3 is to allow readers to more easily locate arts and features articles which are currently spread throughout the main and second sections of the paper. Lorraine Butler has been appointed as features editor. Commenting on the development of Times 3, editor Peter Stothard says: “It has long been my wish to give the arts and media pages a stronger identity. We have more arts pages than any other broadsheet, yet they were slightly hidden away.”

In the daily broadsheet market, the Times is currently second to the Daily Telegraph in terms of circulation. The Telegraph had an average circulation of just over one million in the December 1998-May 1999 ABC audit; the Times has sales of around 740,000.
