Times Online has announced the appointment Simon Christy to the newly created position of marketing manager in the latest management reshuffle for the company’s internet operation.
The new position will see Christy, previously European marketing director for the Active ISP Group, work closely with Peter Bale, Times Online‘s recently appointed editorial director (see Times Appoints Director To Oversee Online Output).
Commenting on the appointment, Annelies van den Belt, deputy advertisement sales director/digital director at Times Newspapers, said: “We are delighted to have Simon on board. He will be working with both our commercial and editorial teams to help continue the successful growth of Times Online.”
The newspaper’s internet presence is now three years old and is an established brand extension, receiving visits from more than 2.4 million unique users each month with 89% of its visitors classified as lucrative ABC1’s.
The Times is credited with being the first British newspaper to launch an online version of its print edition, branded an e-paper. Times Online has also proved a financial success for its parent company, breaking even in the 2nd quarter of 2003.
The online division has seen a period of significant management upheaval recently, with the appointments of Peter Bale, Mathew Watkins and Annelies van den Belt to senior positions within the operation (see Times Rejigs Commercial Division To Integrate Sales).
The website has also been the subject of a massive advertising push through the company’s ‘Where its @ Times Online’ campaign, which was the first electronic brand marketing push to be undertaken by the newspaper (see Times Online Launches Brand Marketing Campaign).
