TMAP Upholds Single Complaint
The Teenage Magazine Arbitration Panel (TMAP) received only one complaint on which it could adjudicate since it last met in August.
Despite upholding the complaint regarding a sex item in Bliss magazine, the panel acknowledged that editorial awareness has been heightened on the issue of presenting suitable and accurate information on sexual matters in teenage magazines. This is evident, TMAP says, in the low number of complaints received and also the praise from Tessa Jowell, the health minister, on how teenage magazines present sexual material.
TMAP was set up by the PPA in July last year (subscribers see New Code For Teenage Mags) in response to growing criticism over how teenage magazines were covering sex in their articles.
