The winners of the 1996 sales promotion awards have been announced. The awards attracted more than 400 entries from newspapers up and down the country.

The top award for sales promotions campaign of the year, daily and Sunday newspapers, went to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle for their Win Your Dream Home Campaign. While the award for best sales promotion of the year, weekly titles, went to the Mold and Buckley Chronicle with their campaign to Save Theatre Clywd.

The daily and Sunday newspapers award for the most innovative campaign of the year went to The News at Portsmouth for their new direct debit scheme, which was taken-up by more than 3,000 people. In the weeklies section, the same award went to the Lancaster Guardian for their Night and Day promotion.

…..The Belfast-based, Irish News has won the Northcliffe Trophy for best sales performance for a regional daily newspaper over the last 3 years. During this period the paper has increased its sales by 6.83%.

Special awards for consistency of performance for weeklies and Sundays went to the Denbighshire Times and Belfast’s Sunday Life.
