Top Of The Pops Magazine Is Launched

The new Top of the Pops magazine is now on the newstands. In the first issue, Brett Anderson from Suede and Tony Mortimer from East 17 as well as a free tape adorn the cover of this glossy monthly magazine priced at £1.25.

The TOTPs TV programme has recently undergone dramatic changes and this is reflected within the magazine. Ric Blaxill, the producer of the TV show is also the consultant editor of the magazine. He wants the magazine to reflect what is happening now within the pop world.

The first issue comprises of news on pop stars, interviews, reviews, band profiles and celebrity gossip. There is also a profile on Ric Blaxill. Bands featured include Blur, Shampoo, Let Loose, The Stone Roses, EMF, R.E.M and Madonna amongst others. Tom Watkins, the manager of East 17 and many other past bands is interviewed. There is also a pullout poster which details a month in the life of Eternal. The TOTPs magazine is a fast moving, pop star packed magazine that offers the reader loads of info on their favourite band. It seems to be aimed at a readership somewhere between Smash Hits and Select. Whether this format will be successful in the long term remains to be seen.

There are 52 pages of which 6 are adverts. There is an editorial ad ratio of 88:12.
