The ITC has reappointed Vanni Treves as chairman of Channel 4 until the end of 2003. Treves has held the position, which is part-time, since 1998 and the decision to continue his contract has been approved as required by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
ITC chairman, Sir Robin Biggam welcomed the decision, saying: “Channel 4 is entering a significant new phase as it awaits the appointment of a new chief executive to replace Michael Jackson.”
The afore mentioned departing chief executive, Michael Jackson, added: “Continuity is important for any business, particularly so during an economic downturn, and Vanni’s knowledge of Channel 4, his robust support for its remit and values and the experience he has gained during his distinguished legal career will continue to serve the channel’s best interests.”
Treves is a senior partner at city solicitors MacFarlanes and has been chairman of several public companies. He is currently chairman of both Equitable Life and the London Business School.
