Trinity Ads Help Paper Profits

Regional newspaper group Trinity, which is merging with the Mirror Group in a £2 billion deal (see Trinity And Mirror Seal Merger In £2bn Deal), has reported improved profits with revenues from newspaper sales and advertising ahead on last year. Pre-tax profit for the 26 weeks to 27 June were £42.5 million, up from £36.2 million last year. Turnover at the group was down to £168.0 million from £174.3 million after the disposal of US businesses in 1998.

The publisher confirmed that it has received ‘a number of expressions of interest’ for its Northern Ireland newspaper titles that have to be sold if the merger with Mirror is to be cleared by the Department of Trade and Industry (see Bidders Line Up For Trinity’s Belfast Telegraph).
