Trinity And Thomson Papers Deal

Trinity International Holdings has bought into Thomson Regional Newspapers in a deal worth £328m, it has been announced today. The publisher is buying more than 50 local papers which include the Belfast Telegraph and Sunday Life (Belfast), The Journal, Evening Chronicle, and Sunday Sun (Newcastle), The Western Mail, South Wales Echo and Wales on Sunday (Cardiff), Evening Gazette (Teeside), and the Chester Chronicle (Chester). The deal is subject to approval by the Department of Trade and Industry and will be referred to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission. If approved it will make Trinity the largest regional newspaper publisher in the UK. Trinity is making a £182m rights issue to pay for the acquisition on terms of one for one at 280p. … News of the World put its price up yesterday, to 55p.
