Trinity Buys Argus Press Titles

Trinity International has bought out 26 Argus Press titles, in a deal worth almost £23m.

Other potential bidders in the deal included Reed Publishing and Emap, but although both could match Trinity in the cash stakes, they risked opposition from the Monopolies and Mergers Commission because of clashes with titles currently being published by the groups.

Papers in the sale include the Reading Chronicle, the South London Press and the Surrey Comet. The deal will now pass on to the MMC for confirmation.
